[8 Things] Extra&Ordinary Design
Extra&Ordinary Design founder Hyunhee Hwang told us 8 Things.
1. What's the last thing that inspired you?
‘La Mer’ by Claude Debussy. It continuously goes back and forth between harmony and incongruity.
2. How would you describe your aesthetic?
Flowing, impactful, and eclectic.
3. What does your daily routine look like?
In this pandemic, my routine became very simple. Yoga, work, nutritious meals, and lots of walks. This time really offered me a chance to focus on myself.
4. What are two hidden gems in your city?
I live in London. Barbican center is my favorite hidden gem. You can enjoy the historical English brutalist architecture outside and can sit in the middle of their conservatory enjoying a cream tea. Their gift shop is also full of rare but lovely items and books. Secondly, the lobby and library in the Standard Hotel in King's Cross. You can enjoy their early 70s inspired interior design, a pretty big selection of books [and drinks!]
5. What is your favorite item in your closet right now?
I love earrings and I have to wear them when I go out. [Otherwise, I feel incomplete.] Currently, I am rotating between 3 styles: some pearl earrings that are from my mom's accessory box that she owned for decades, a gold twist set which was gifted almost 12 years ago [they were sitting in my closet for a long time but now they are back on trend!], and a quirky set that is not traditional, but I love them because they have a steampunk aesthetic and are super versatile [either formal or casual].
6. What is the last thing you bought for your home?
A scented candle from Zaha Hadid Design, two years ago my friend got me one for my birthday and I just got myself a new one. [Almost one third is gone already in two weeks.]
7. Did you pick up a new hobby or interest during quarantine?
I became a plant lover. I have approximately 40 types of plants, and bought most of them at the flower market. Every single one is growing very healthy and happy.
8. Do you have a secret talent?
Propagating plants is my new skill to go on my CV! I am constantly making new pots of plants to grow or gift. [Considering the grey, wet English weather, this is magical!]
