[8 Things] Bien Mal

Bea and Ivan founders of Bien Mal told us 8 Things.

1. What's the last thing that inspired you?

Watching the documentary "Eames, the architect, and the painter." Charles and Ray Eames are such an inspiration for us; getting to know more of their trajectory makes us want to keep creating new things and inspire others.

2. How would you describe your aesthetic?

Unpretentious, joyous, current.

3. What does your daily routine look like?

Starting the day making strong espressos is a must for us; otherwise, we're walking zombies. Like most people these days, we're working from home. Whenever we're not in a meeting, we're working while playing loud music in our living room. Bea is always chasing good lighting, to take photos, and create content for Bien Mal, which might be her favorite activity. To end the day, we always go out for fresh air and to explore a new area of the city (always wearing our masks and keeping 6 feet apart, obviously.

4. What are two hidden gems in your city?

We recently moved to Los Angeles and are obsessed with Owl Bureau, a bookstore that feels more like an art gallery; going there, it's a visual and creative stimulation experience. Another place that we love is Gjusta, a bakery in Venice with an amazing outdoor space and the most exquisite pastries.

5. What's your favorite item in your closet right now?

Bea: a mini bag (smaller than the palm of my hands) from Building Block.

6. What's the last thing you bought for your home?

A barista espresso machine. We wanted to bring the coffee shop experience home. It's been fun learning how to fraught milk and playing baristas every day.

7. Did you pick up a new hobby or interest during quarantine?

Bea started making miniature replicas of her favorite bags with clay. Ivan has been painting and rendering objects on his computer. We both picked up surf this summer since we are now living in California.
